Default Ryan Howard 5 year / 125 Million

After seeing Pujols and Prince sign for so much (money and length of contract), I am very happy the Phillies signed Ryan Howard for 5 years and 125 million. It is financially about the same per year, but the Phillies don't have to pay for years 6,7,8,and9 like the Tigers and Angels will for their sluggers.

Howard's deal really set the market. Once he got overpaid it basically set a chain reaction for those more talented or slightly worse.

Phils were smart though. The 5yrs is waay better then 9 or 10. Smart move by them for sure. For the others if they are gambling on them getting one Series ring in the first few years. They know the players will just be riding out the end of those contracts

I think he would've got more years had he been younger. His deal will go till he's 35 I believe.

With 2 of the best NL hitters leaving in Pujols and Fielder to the AL, the Phillies were smart. LOL!

Could be an interesting year for the Phillies and for the NL without Pujols and Fielder!
