I have been purchasing 2013 Score and 2013 Bowman from Target and Walmart in search for the elusive "Leon Sandcastle" card. For members not familiar with "Sandcastle", it is actually Dieon Sanders in a spoof. He appeared as "Leon Sandcastle" during the premier and introduction at half time for a Super Bowl comercial. They have also included Commissioner Rodger Goodell to play along. The only information available regarding "Leon Sandcastle" is from "Knights Lance", the official blog for Panini America. They have informed collectors that the first "Sandcastle" cards would be available exclusively in retail products of 2013 Score and Bowman.
Currently, I have in abundance 2013 Score and Bowman to possibly open a sports card store that specializes in 2013 Score and Bowman! What does this entail? A crazy Japanese guy with a cane running around at the sport card aisle.
My day started with filling up the Kia mini van with gas, going to the bank, cutting my hair, grocery shopping for this evenings dinner (Stuffed Cabbage), and finally making my pilgrimage to our local hobby card shop to pray to the Gods of football card collecting. I picked up some collecting supplies and asked the proprietor to pick out four packs from a 2013 Panini Prestige hobby box. Once home, my usual routine was to check on the cats and store our grocery items.
I then sat at our dinning table with Mrs. Toshi and began to open my four packs of Prestige. This is a rare occasion for me to open packs. It is generally Mrs. Toshi whom opens card packs. While opening the packs, I wondered if I would be able to get a decent hit of a rookie auto.
As this would be the case, my last pack to open was "THE" pack to have in my possession, a 2013 Panini Prestige Auto Rookie Card Leon Sandcastle #301 (12/21)! I screamed with joy to finally get an authentic "Sandcastle" card. Through some hard work and having too many extra Score and Bowman cards, I've finally achieved my goal!
These cards were the insert cards from the four packs of Prestige. I have to admit, I'm a sucker for the acetate cards. And having an acetate card of Doug Martin made this break a very noteworthy one!
