  • Rangers Sign Carlos Gomez To 1 Year $11.5 Million

Carlos Gomez, Rangers agree on 1-year, $11.5 million deal

Carlos Gomez reached an agreement with the Texas Rangers on a one-year, $11.5 million deal, sources told ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

The Rangers signed the two-time All-Star center fielder to a minor league contract in August after he was released by the Astros amid a season-long slump.

Gomez hit .210 with five home runs and 29 RBIs with 100 strikeouts in 85 games with Houston. The Astros got him late during the 2015 season from Milwaukee.

Gomez then hit .284 over 33 games with AL West champion Texas after joining the team, with eight home runs and 24 RBIs. His hits included two long three-run homers on consecutive nights in late September that helped the Rangers clinch home-field advantage throughout the postseason.

Gomez won a Gold Glove as a center fielder for the Brewers in 2013, but the Rangers opted to use him as a corner outfielder to help fill in for Shin-Soo Choo, the Rangers' right fielder who was out with a fractured left arm.

Gomez has hit .257 with 116 homers with the Mets, Minnesota, Milwaukee, Houston and Texas.
