  • Rockies Sign Mike Dunn To 3 Years $19 Million

Mike Dunn, Colorado Rockies agree to three-year contract

The Colorado Rockies have agreed with relief pitcher Mike Dunn on a three-year contract.

The deal is worth more than $19 million, a source told ESPN's Buster Olney, confirming multiple reports.

Dunn, a 31-year-old left-hander, was 6-1 with a 3.40 ERA in 42⅓ innings for the Miami Marlins last season.

By signing with Colorado, Dunn, a native of Farmington, New Mexico, not only moves closer to home but possibly to landing a closer's role. He has typically worked the middle innings over his career.

"You always want to potentially become a closer if you're a reliever,'' Dunn said Thursday at his introductory news conference. "Ultimately, I want to win baseball games, however that pans out."

Dunn, who had eight holds and four blown saves in 2016, shores up a Colorado bullpen that blew 28 saves last season.

In his career, he has held left-handed batters to a .228 batting average. Last season, left-handed batters hit .278 against him.

In eight seasons, including six with the Marlins, he has a 28-25 record and a 3.54 ERA.
