The Five Worst Centers in Orlando Magic History: A Fan

Found this hilarious article on Yahoo. Enjoy! LOL!

Whether or not he gets traded away before the start of the season, Dwight Howard's days in Orlando are all but over, which means that new GM Rob Hennigan and head coach Jacque Vaugh will have their work cut out for them in getting an adequate replacement for their departing superstar. While they may be able to deal for a solid center like Andrew Bynum or Brook Lopez when they trade away Howard, there is also the possibility that Orlando's next starting center may give the following players a run for their money as one of the worst in Magic history. Here then is a list of the worst Magic players to have played the position.

    John Amaechi (1999-2001)
Soft for a 6-10, 270 lbs center, it's hard to say which part of Amaechi's game was worse, his shooting, his rebounding, or his defense. In two seasons in which he averaged 21 minutes a game, Amaechi only managed to pull down an average 3.3 rebounds, numbers often surpassed by an average guard. As if that wasn't enough, Amaechi shot .420 from the field, and blocked all of 66 shots during his stay in Orlando. To put his shot blocking skills into perspective, Wayne "Tree" Rollins blocked 5 more shots in less than 3,100 minutes in a Magic uniform.

    Greg Kite (1991-1994)
Greg Kite has always been a nice guy off the court, but on the court he was a flagrant foul waiting to happen. In a Magic career that spanned 247 games, Kite committed 704 fouls, a total which was only 42 less than the amount of points he scored for the team. As if that wasn't enough, Kite was so awful from the foul line that both Shaquille O'Neal and Dwight Howard have better career averages than Kite.

    Steven Hunter (2002-2004)
Taken 15th overall from DePaul in 2001, Hunter was a 7-foot center drafted for his shot blocking skills (152 in 145 games) and little else. In the end Hunter showed he could not score (especially from the foul line) and was much too light (220 lbs) to establish himself in the paint. Pushed around inside, Hunter turned out to be a horrid rebounder as well.

    Marc Acres (1989-2002)
Coming to Orlando by way of the Expansion Draft, Acres was a center trapped in a power forward's body who earned playing time only because Orlando was new to the NBA. With little by way of offensive and a below average defender, Acres did the best he could on the boards where he managed to collect almost 200 rebounds (1042) more than points (855) during his tenure on the team.

    Stanley Roberts (1991-1992)
Living proof that all 7-footers from LSU are not created equal, Roberts was drafted 23rd overall in 1991. Though he had a decent rookie season with Orlando, averaging over 10 points and 6 rebounds per game, he never quite lived up to the hype that came with his 7-foot, 285 lbs frame. Ironically enough he was traded away in a deal that brought another 7-foot LSU stiff to Orlando; Geerit Hammink.

I lived in Orlando for the tenure of almost all of these guys. It is especially hard when you see the big gap from 1992-1998 was filled by Shaq! Rony Sikely was one of my least favorite centers. He was more effective than the guys on this list, but his non-stop flopping was embarrassing!
Favorite baseball players include: Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Kirby Puckett, Pete Rose, Tyler Colvin Mark Appel
Favorite football players include: Peyton Manning, John Elway, Daunte Culpepper, Mike Alstott, Blake Bortles, and Dri Archer
Collecting: 2012 Topps Mini 1987 topps... non-certified autos (in person or through the mail), autographed cards with bible verses
