New York Knicks and point guard Ramon Sessions agree to one-year deal

The New York Knicks and veteran point guard Ramon Sessions have agreed to a one-year deal for the veterans minimum, league sources confirm.

The Knicks had been searching for a veteran point guard to help mentor rookie point guard Frank Ntilikina, whom they drafted with the No. 8 pick in the 2017 draft.

Sessions, a 10-year veteran, was limited to 50 games last season with the Charlotte Hornets because of a meniscus injury. He averaged 6.2 points and 2.6 assists per game for the Hornets. New York's agreement with Sessions was first reported by The Vertical.

It is unclear at this point whether the Knicks project Sessions, 31, as their starting point guard for the coming season. They have Ntilikina and combo guard Ron Baker as potential starters.

New York has a small amount of salary-cap space available, so any future free-agent signings will have to be made via the veterans minimum. Sessions' veterans-minimum exception is worth $2.33 million.

Knicks to waive Ramon Sessions, opening spot to sign Trey Burke

The New York Knicks have waived point guard Ramon Sessions to make room to sign G League guard and former lottery pick Trey Burke, league sources told ESPN.

Burke, the No. 9 pick in the 2013 NBA draft, has averaged 26.6 points per game on 49 percent shooting this season for the Westchester Knicks, New York's G League team. Sources said he will sign a deal for the rest of the season Sunday.

Sessions averaged 3.7 points and 2.1 assists in 13 games for the Knicks this season.

"We thank Ramon for being a consummate professional and providing this team with veteran leadership," Knicks general manager Scott Perry said in a statement announcing the team has requested waivers on Sessions. "He is incredibly well respected throughout the organization and we wish him the best moving forward."

Sessions began the season as the starting point guard but fell out of the rotation after an 0-3 start and was replaced by Jack.

New York is responsible for $300,478 of the remaining salary owed to Sessions, with the NBA picking up the remaining $857,270. His full $1.47 million salary will stay on the Knicks' salary cap.
