  • Matt Forte Signs For 4 Years $32 Million

Bears running back Matt Forte told 670 The Score in Chicago that he'll likely skip training camp if he can't come to terms on a long-term deal. The Bears have until July 16 to come to terms with Forte or he'll be forced to play for the franchise free agent amount of $7.74 million. Forte also said he doesn't plan to miss regular-season games and is "optimistic" about on-going talks with the team

ESPN's Adam Schefter believes unsigned franchise player Matt Forte and the Bears will come to terms on an extension prior to July 16.
July 16 is the deadline for teams to extend players who were assigned the franchise tag. Forte said Friday that he won't sit out regular season games, but would still prefer a long-term extension. He's believed to be seeking LeSean McCoy and Arian Foster money, which would include over $20 million guaranteed.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports there has been "considerable progress" in long-term talks between the Bears and unsigned franchise player Matt Forte.
League sources tell La Canfora the sides have an idea of how a five-year deal might look, but remain at odds over how to structure the first three years. Nevertheless, La Canfora is now on the same page with ESPN's Chris Mortensen, who predicted Wednesday the sides would reach an agreement before Monday's deadline. La Canfora had previously characterized the chances of a deal getting done as "weak."

NFL Network's Michael Lombardi reports that the Bears and unsigned franchise player Matt Forte are "extremely close" to a long-term deal.
Forte said on Friday that he expected heavy negotiations to take place this weekend. It sounds like they're progressing well. Forte has yet to sign his $7.749 million franchise tender and Monday is the deadline for the two sides to come to an extension. It would now be an upset if Forte plays out the 2012 season under the franchise tag.

the bears get my vote as going to be the most improved team in the league with the offseason aquisitions they have made, Bush is no slouch..the bears 1-2 combo at running back is going to be hard to deal with

Bears signed Matt Forte to a four-year, $32 million contract, including over $18 million in guarantees.
After two years of wrangling, Forte finally has his long-term deal at age 26. Instead of playing out the 2012 season on a one-year franchise tag tender of $7.749 million, he now has a contract that averages roughly $8 million and takes him through the 2015 season. The annual numbers are similar to the six-year, $45.6 deal LeSean McCoy signed and the five-year, $43.5 million contract Arian Foster received, but the guaranteed total is $3 million less than DeAngelo Williams, who played just 42.7 percent of the Panthers' offensive snaps in 2011. Forte was on pace for 1,982 total yards, but just five touchdowns before going down with a knee injury in Week 12 last season.
