  • Bills FS Byrd finally signs franchise tender

Bills signed franchise player FS Jairus Byrd to a one-year, $6.916 million contract.
With Week 1 just 19 days away, Byrd finally reached the point where he had more to lose than gain by holding out. His only incentive to stay away from camp and the preseason was avoiding injury, as league rules prevent the sides from reaching a long-term agreement until next offseason. There had been speculation the Bills would agree not to tag Byrd again in 2014, but NFL.com reports that's not the case. A true playmaker, Byrd has picked off eight passes and forced seven fumbles over the past two seasons. He was Pro Football Focus' No. 2 rated safety last season. At least on paper, DC Mike Pettine has a pretty imposing unit.
