I have never seen this kind of contract before. The New Jersey Devils have signed Ilya Kovalchuk to a 17 year $102 million contract. The longest contract I have ever heard of in any sport was for 10 years. Click on the link to read more.

....and we still await the outcome of where Ilya Kovalchuk will play this season???? I hope the NHL, NHLPA, and the Kovy camp can get something worked out, so he doesn't end up in Russia. The NHL can't afford to lose a 40-50 goal scorer to the KHL.
