  • Super Low End Keepers - Post Yours Here!

We are all in search of those super rare high end cards that we can't wait to show off. Let's do something different and see those cards of yours that aren't particularly rare or valuable but hold a sentimental value to you that you would never let go!
Here's one of mine I just got... I think Beckett lists it as $.05.

Great thread. Here is mine: I just happen to really like the canvas texture and the image. A well designed card (nice and simple) and I love it!

I purchased a 1992 Topps Stadium Club Series 1, Series 2, and High Series complete set. Beckett lists Series 1 at $15.00 for 300 cards, the same goes for Series 2 with a cost of $15.00 also for 300 cards. It is my humble opinion that you nor I could not even giveaway these 2 Series for free as no one would want such rubbish! Why did I go out of my way and spend the time and money on mere toilet paper? It has to do with the High Series.

The High Series is a 100 cards set that has a Beckett Book Value of $120.00. Most of the cards that carry the High Series are Montana, Aikman, and Rice, to name a few. The key card in this set is none other than the coveted 1992 Topps Stadium Club Brett Favre with a Beckett Value of $60.00. This card is considered (Unofficially) as Favre's first Greenbay Packers (Rookie) card. I could have bought the Favre card and be done with it, but I'm sure every forum member knows how anal I am about card collecting especially if it involves a rare Favre card.

So I sit here in Streetsboro, Ohio with 700 cards most of which has a book value of $0.01 and maybe a high of $0.05. Storing such cards in top loaders is insane even for an anal individual like me. In actuality, I did place them all in top loaders at first. Yes, laugh it up! I eventually went with simple penny sleeves with the Favre card in a 35pt. Magnetic Case. Approximately a year ago, I ended up bending and destroying card number 1 from series 1 which was a Mark Rypien card. I was livid. How in the hell am I gonna find a 1992 Topps Stadium Club Mark Rypien #1 card in mint condition to replace my damaged card?

I went about asking RBRedskins for a feasible solution as he specializes in complete sets. He remarked that shipping and handling would cost more than the card was worth. I should just except it and move on. Who? Me? No way! I found one on eBay for $5.00 with S&H at $2.99. This seller must be smoking pot and should share a couple of joints with me if I was to pay that much for a Mark Rypien card. About a month ago while shopping for my 2012 Elite Rookie Hard Hats on Sports Lots, I finally found one for $0.18. S&H was $0.78. I still paid over 100% of actual value for the card but I did complete my goal. To protect my '92 card sets, I placed them in penny sleeves then into team bags with blanks. Then placed them in a 2 row corrugated white shoe box. Talk about a pain in the ass, at least that's what Mrs. Toshi thinks of me, but that's ok. As I now am a proud owner once again of 699 almost worthless cards with a very nice and valuable Brett Favre card!

      <a href="http://s1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/hayn0824/1991%20Favre%20Rookie%20Auto/?action=view&current=image_zpse34b6d99.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/hayn0824/1991%20Favre%20Rookie%20Auto/image_zpse34b6d99.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos" /></a>

Here is the valueless Mark Rypien card that is so important to me that when I damaged the card, I paid over 100% of it's book value just to replace a $0.01 card!

The things we as collectors will do just to acquire or complete a card set! It borders on clinical insanity.

I finally bit the bullet and bought the last card for 2012 Platinum I needed to complete the set.. overpaid but not nearly what you did, Toshi!
I've had this card since the early 90s... not sure how I acquired it.. possibly from one of those card shows in a mall. Remember them?!?! Could you imagine trying to do one in todays' malls with cards of this era? Chaos!

They do card shows at a mall near me. It's a pretty good sized mall, in a city that's bigger than my town (about 20 miles away). They do one 2 or 3 times a year in there & it seems pretty laid back.

I collect Calvin, Barry, 1 auto each of rookie Lions that make the team & HOF auto & GU.

Wow really? Wish they would do that in North Texas!

Which card was the final piece to completing your 2012 Topps Platinum Set?

Do you have a complete 2012 Topps Chrome Set?

Now you should look into a 2012 Topps Finest Set. I purchased a 2012 Topps Finest hobby box, Brett and I split the box as it is sold with 2 mini boxes exactly like Triple Threads. I was extremely disappointed in the fact that my hit (Isaiah Pead 3 color patch is really a very beautifully done card and I really enjoy it) was numbered up to somewhere around a couple of thousand prints. That is exceptable 25 years ago, unacceptable in 2012! Also note that I was not a fan of the Atomic Refractor as it was just too busy to me. I will never purchase another hobby box of Finest again. I did in fact enjoy the base cards. I recently found a complete set on eBay for $15.52 including shipping and handling and immediately made the 2012 Topps Finest Set part of my collection. This set numbered 1-150 is very difficult to find and rarely shows up on eBay, especially at the price I paid. If you like the Platinum set, I highly recommend the Finest set as well.

There is a mall in Strongsville, Ohio that has cards set up in the aisles of the mall. If my memory serves me right, Whitney777 lives a few minutes from this mall. The mall recently had a card show, I was unable to attend the show as I was hurt. I am looking forward to the National Card Show in August that will be at the I-X Center here in Cleveland.

do you remember when they used to do the mall shows at Forum 303 mall(then 6 Flags Mall) in Arlington back in the day? I used to have my mom drive me periodically.

Ya BCW I do! Me and my partner in crime Ronnie used to beg our parents to loan us (like we ever paid them back...) money and drop us off. We used to plan opening a card shop, when we were 11! lol My best memory of old mall shows are of the ones I would go to with my Grandpa in Independence, MO and Gladstone, MO. I remember standing in line for 2 hours one time to get Tamarrick Vanover's auto on a card.

Toshi, the last card I needed was Mohammed Sanu RC. The only reason I started that set was cuz I bought a bunch of blasters of it at Wal Mart and decided to finish it up after getting half way through... same goes for '13 Platinum, '13 Prizm. I'm living in rural Arkansas right now so I can't get to a card shop within 5 hours. I'm not a big fan of Finest. Too expensive for the return IMO.
Here's another one of my low end cards I won't ever get rid of
                      Kenny "The Shark" Gant:

If you want to talk about cards worth a nickle but you enjoy, here would be my collection. I am a Broncos fan. In the 80's they were good enough to make the playoffs and show up in a few super bowls, but then you know what happened. I love the late 80's football especially of the players I was rooting for at the time! Here are two of my favorites: Gerald Wilhite and his back flip after scoring a touchdown. And then, in the words of Chris Berman "What in the name of Sammy Winder, the Broncos have a running game!"

Favorite baseball players include: Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Kirby Puckett, Pete Rose, Tyler Colvin Mark Appel
Favorite football players include: Peyton Manning, John Elway, Daunte Culpepper, Mike Alstott, Blake Bortles, and Dri Archer
Collecting: 2012 Topps Mini 1987 topps... non-certified autos (in person or through the mail), autographed cards with bible verses
