  • 2014 Allen & Ginter's

    My fellow forum members,

In 2013, out of curiosity, I purchased a hanger pack of A&G. It had baseball cards and some novelty cards as well. Following up in the Tobacco era of fame, Topps has done an interesting job in this set. Today I purchased two hanger packs of A&G just to see what I pulled. I was hoping to get a hit like a Pele auto! Oh well. It look decent enough that I just might pick up the blaster box. My favorite cards here are of Yu Darvish, Lou Gehrig, Mini, and some place I would love to visit, Cairo, Egypt. Here is what I pulled.

I am easy, I collect any and all NFL cards. Individual players I really enjoy are Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck, RGIII, and Russell Wilson. My passion is Favre rookie cards and vintage cards.

nice Darvish! I don't do baseball any more but I have always really liked A & G and Gypsy Queen and would splurge and buy a few boxes when I got bored with football during the summer. The weird insert sets and variety of autos besides baseball players make it fun to open.
    -Brady

Looking for mainly Cowboys, Andy Dalton

I like the Darvish because he's Japanese. I did some research as I could not understand his last name. Darvish is not Japanese. I found out that his dad is from the Middle East and his mother is Japanese. They live in northern Japan. The only other Japanese baseball players I know is Ichiro and Hideki Matsui. I have a card of Ichiro, I'm looking for an inexpensive Matsui. Of course the Gehrig is really cool, at some point, I'd like to invest in a 1933 National Chicle Babe Ruth.

I love the non baseball cards. It gives children as well as adults an educational and fun experience while enjoying the hobby! Thanks for the read and reply. R&R

        Toshi

Yes, I agree. This is my second year in collecting Allen & Ginter's. I think I'll make it a traditional purchase every year! Thanks for the Read & Reply R&R!

Like BCW, I sometimes grab a value pack of A&G or Gypsy Queen. Have never put the sets together. I like the framed inserts that are in Gpysy Queen (just like the Rookie Enchantment insert set in Magic football). I have some Matsui that I will send you.
I collect Andre Johnson, Redskins from the 70’s & 80’s, HOF’ers and Texas A&M Aggies
(Manziel, Mike Evans, Jake Matthews, Ryan Swope, Sean Porter, Luke Joeckel, Damontre Moore, Ryan Tannehill, Cyrus Gray, Jeff Fuller, Martellus Bennett, Stephen McGee, Goodson, Jerrod Johnson, V. Miller, Acie Law, DeAndre Jordan, Antoine Wright, Justin Ruggiano, etc.).

My first ever hobby box in '06 was an A & G, this was when I just got back into collecting....I pulled my best ever pack pull:

So, like any product, luck has to be on your side to get a good hit....but the potential is there. Worse case, you almost complete the set of some really cool cards. Bottom line, I do recommend it.

Oh wow! Thank you! I have limited knowledge in baseball, all I know is that Matsui was the MVP for the 2008-2009 World Series.

Thank you very much. I purchased the last Blaster Box of A&G from Walmart.

As you know with Football I go back to 1974. With baseball, I go back to 1972. However, once it got into the 2000's, because of the overflow of product, I picked football to stay with for collecting. I remember buying some in 2002 and built the Topps sets in 2006 and 2007. Now I just buy the Factory sets each year. However I did get a whole lot of base from this one card shop I went to. He would have theses 500/600 count boxes full of base with a gu'd/auto for $10. And I bought a lot of those (along with football) over a period of 4/5 years.

So the point of this long story, is don't get to excited with the cards coming your way. They are pretty much all base cards.
