  • 49ers extend LT Staley through 2019 season

49ers signed LT Joe Staley to a two-year extension through 2019.
Staley signed a nine-year, $43.66 million contract in June 2009, but the 49ers have decided to reward his perennially dominant play with a two-year extension. The deal surely includes a raise on Staley's currently scheduled $2.7 million for 2014. It's a clear message to holdout RG Alex Boone, and perhaps walk-year LG Mike Iupati. CSN Bay Area reports Staley had been quietly seeking an extension, unlike Boone and Vernon Davis, who made noise all offseason. One of the game's truly elite blindside protectors, Staley hasn't missed a game since 2009. He turns 30 next month.
