  • Vintage card grading

    Hello all,

I have recently come out of retirement from card collecting and rejoined the game after a 20+ year layoff. Last time I collected cards there was no such thing as professional card grading and the Jose Canseco '86 Donruss was worth well north of $150. Times have changed and I am trying to catch up.

How is SGC respected when it comes to vintage card grading compared to PSA? How would a 96 SGC grading compare to PSA? I am interested in purchasing a vintage card with a 96 grade and am debating whether or not I should wait until I find the same card with a good mint PSA grade. The card looks too good to be true and I am being cautious.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

For older cards,SGC and PSA are the 2 companies I'd personally go with for my collection. Many people would prefer PSA over SGC because PSA cards "sell" better but SGC is a very reputable company and in my eyes,a SGC 96 is as good as a PSA 9.
