  • Chris Davis Suspended 25 Games

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis is suspended 25 games by MLB - ESPN

Well you kind of knew he was on something. He hit 53 HRs with 138 RBIs last season batting .286. This season 26 HRs with 72 RBIs batting .196.

Chris Davis of the Baltimore Orioles has been suspended 25 games without pay after testing positive for amphetamines in violation of Major League Baseball's drug program, the commissioner's office announced Friday.

Baltimore started play Friday leading the AL East by 10 games with 17 left in the regular season, so the team could be without the 2013 home run champion deep into the playoffs. Under the terms of the game's drug agreement, the remaining eight games on Davis' suspension would be applied to the postseason.

Davis, 28, released a statement of apology through the players' association Friday morning.

"I apologize to my teammates, coaches, the Orioles organization and especially the fans,'' he said. "I made a mistake by taking Adderall. I had permission to use it in the past, but do not have a therapeutic use exemption this year. I accept my punishment and will begin serving my suspension immediately."

The suspension is another blow to an Orioles' team that has been beset by injuries to key players. Catcher Matt Wieters is out for the season with Tommy John surgery, and third baseman Manny Machado recently underwent season-ending knee surgery.

Although he is hitting a major league-worst .196 this season and has struck out 173 times in 127 games, Davis ranks second on the Orioles to Nelson Cruz with 26 homers and is third behind Cruz and Adam Jones with 72 RBIs. His 112 home runs since 2012 are most in the majors, better than two-time reigning AL MVP Miguel Cabrera by two.

Davis began his career with the Texas Rangers before going to Baltimore with Tommy Hunter in July 2011 in a trade for relief pitcher Koji Uehara. He broke through with 33 homers for the Orioles in 2012 and led the majors with 53 homers and 138 RBIs in 2013 while making his first career All-Star appearance.

Under the terms of MLB's drug agreement, a first offense for a stimulant violation results in followup testing. A second violation brings a 25-game suspension, and a third offense results in an 80-game suspension.

I'd like to know how you knew he was on something. If you knew, why didn't you say something before? Also, do you think that everyone with 26 or more home runs this year is on something? If you're going back to '13, and maybe '12, what about Cabrera, and others? At least Davis admitted he made a mistake, and is accepting his punishment. Many in the past didn't do that. Sorry to hear that he made that mistake, but at least he admitted to it and didn't stretch it out like A Rod, before accepting his punishment.

    Have a good night.

Much like Brady Anderson, Adrian Beltre in his last year as a Dodger, and even Josh Hamilton. Have career season with 50 HRs (Brady) , 48 HRs (Beltre), and Hamilton's entire tenure with the Rangers. Then the next season and years after they struggle to hit even half of that = they are on something.

EVERYONE thought he was on something last year. Well, this shows he was. He was cheating. If he wasn't an Oriole, your thoughts would be much different.

Dan, I'd like to know how you can tell that my "thoughts would be much different". There is no evidence that "he was cheating" last year. So, how do you know that? He was caught this year, and he admitted to it. He deserves his punishment, and he accepted it. Most that are caught make excuses, don't admit, etc. At least he was honest about it when confronted, and was apologetic to the fans and team. How many others who have been caught have done that, or will when they get caught in the future. The drugs evidently weren't a big deal with his stats this year, look at his compared to last year. You opinion, as well as mine, are both free to be expressed. However, please don't tell me how I would reply on others as you're not in my mind, and therefore you have no clue what I would say based on the player, situation, etc. Have a good day.

This is interesting, a thread is posted about Davis' suspension (him forgetting to get approval to use a substance, which was for energy not body building), but no nice comments about his action of helping save a man from a truck turned upside down (which happened about a week and a half ago). How many players from the teams y'all support have helped save someone's life? If you can't give someone credit for doing something good/nice, then don't be critical. Have a good evening.

Davis didn't 'forget', he failed a test twice this season, which is why he got suspended for cheating.

Dan, you just have to be critical don't you. He did "forget", if you'd seen the article it said he had applied, in the past, for approval and received it. However, he failed to do so this season. Also, what he was taking, again according to the article, said what he was taking was for energy not for strength. Therefore, how could the "energy", instead of "strength", items "explain" his power in 2013 & decrease in HR's this year? Also, I notice that besides being hard on him in your post, you can't give him credit for helping in saving a man's life. If you're going to be "critical" when someone does something you don't like shouldn't you also be willing to give them credit for doing something nice?

Let's see how you respond when someone from your team(s) gets suspended, it's bound to happen sometime. As I said in a previous post concerning this, he deserves his punishment. However, that doesn't mean everyone else all of a sudden become "experts" in "EVERYONE thought he was on something last year." How many of those "EVERYONE..." "experts" could see that he was going to help save a man's life? So, it's okay, according to you, and "EVERYONE...", that it's okay to be "critical" of someone's mistake(s) but ignore to make positive comments when that person does something VERY NICE.

Look inside your self, knowing that at times people are going to be critical about something you do that they don't like. However, wouldn't you like it, if the same people would speak highly of you when you do something that deserves it? Think about it.

                      Have a good evening, Rodney

Cheaters dont win and then they get suspended. Now he is hurting your team's playoff chances of winning the World Series.

If anything, you should be super pissed off at him for screwing your team. He was your team's best offensive player last season, especially now with Wieters and Machado hurt they could have really used him right now.

I dont see why or how you are defending him.

I'm not defending him. Evidently you didn't read, in an earlier post I have on this thread, that I said he deserved the suspension. However, if others are going to be "critical" for what he did wrong shouldn't they also be nice when he does something nice? He helped save a man's life, and yet the "critics" go back to his mistake and get more critical and ignore the nice act. With the comments made on some posts here that doesn't happen. Also, some who posted here seem to "know' everything, even from the past. They think they're experts, when there is no evidence of such. Some just like to run others down, and others just think it's funny.

While y'all continue to make such comments, and laugh, please include me and my family. We heard by phone this morning that my brother, age 50, dropped dead in his driveway when getting ready to go to work. I know this has nothing directly to do with Davis. However, as time passes, I hope he's more remembered for helping to save that man's life than being suspended for his mistake in MLB. I also hope that my brother will be more remembered for the good things he did than his mistakes. Wouldn't you want to be remembered in the same way? So, if we're going to be "critical", shouldn't we also be NICE? Unfortunately, some evidently don't think so.

                            Have a good evening, Rodney

I will be the first or should I say the second person in this thread to say "it was great of him ( Chris Davis ) to save a mans life" trust me when I say that if I could I would do it also and hope that any human would help another in need..

But he had the suspension coming for failing the test twice, no if ands or buts about it.
