  • Another One Bites the Dust

I'm mixed with anger, sadness, and a little anxiety right now. I bought a Michael Irvin card off eBay about a week ago. The seller put it up as B.I.N. with OBO option for 7 days. I immediately put in an offer on it and waited... while I tried to go to sleep that night I couldn't help think that someone would send in a better offer to the seller and I would never see this card again. So I rolled out of bed and bought the card at his BIN price. I won't say how much I spent but I'm sure you can find it if you want to know...
So Wednesday I noticed the tracking info was changed to 'Delivered' on eBay so I was stoked to open my mail! No card. I checked USPS tracking and same, shipped and delivered. Bummed out I told myself it'll be here tomorrow, no big deal. So when it was about time for the mail to get here on Thursday I actually waited outside until it was delivered. Never done that before... again, no card., I went up to the post office and checked to see if it was there and it wasn't. Since I live in a small town the desk lady called the driver and asked if he remembered delivering a bubble mailer to my address. He did, he said he gave it to my Grandpa on Wednesday (living with them to help out around their house as they get up in years) but there were 2 other bubble mailers I got that day too. I went home, asked my Grandpa, checked all the trash cans, double checked the trash cans, basically flipped the house upside down. Nothing!
So I'm starting to think that this is what happened: The driver scanned the bar code a couple houses before mine to say it was delivered and set it aside for himself. This is the 3rd time something has come up not delivered that was said it had been. It sickens me to think that this guy actually did that, but he might be able to get away with it if he did because as far as the P.O. is concerned if it was scanned to say delivered then it's on the recipient from that point on.
I will be going to the Post Office Monday to talk to the Post Master about it, like that will help at all... if that doesn't work I'll be contacting his superior to make sure someone is held accountable for this...
So if you see this card somewhere PLEASE let me know so I can try to track down how it ended up where it did. Here's the card... don't know the serial number but will let you guys know when the seller gets back to me.

This is so sad and pathetic that someone would do such a thing like that. What happens if this were a kid waiting for his card in the mail. The child would be in tears. Being this is the third time, I just don't understand why someone would do this. I wish you the best of luck.

I am easy, I collect any and all NFL cards. Individual players I really enjoy are Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck, RGIII, and Russell Wilson. My passion is Favre rookie cards and vintage cards.

Sorry to hear about this. Contact the seller, maybe he remembers the serial number of the card or had it recorded at some time.

Thanks, Toshi. Ya it is pretty pathetic that he would do this (if it was him) and highly illegal. As I said before I won't stop at talking to the Post Master... I'll go Erin Brockovich on this town about this card! lol

Hopefully this card shows up but they can track who scanned the item as delivered and you should be able to contact the Postal Inspectors (which the Postmaster should suggest). If this Carrier is stealing the mail and they can catch him at it then his career is done and he will be looking at some Jail time. Let us know if this ever gets resolved. I have a serious problems with thieves especially ones that get paid a good wage to do their job so things like this don't happen. Good Luck. Post Office is closed today for the Holiday(Columbus Day)

This is very good to know! I figured there has to be a way to get this guy. Hopefully once the heat is on him he will come to his senses and deliver it.

Well, I talked to the Post master today and he basically said if the package was scanned then it was out of his control. If other people in my area had been complaining about not getting their mail he would have cause to investigate the matter more...

Now for a twist! I haven't deleted the auction end in "My eBay". I was checking some stuff and noticed the tracking number looked different (since I have it just about memorized now). Sure enough, new tracking number! Sent a message to the seller asking what's going on, just waiting for a reply, but didn't get one when I asked about it a week ago... so I dunno. Maybe in a few days it will be here and I'll have to eat crow and apologize to the postal workers for accusing them of stealing. I did it in a professional way though! lol

Awhile ago, I mailed cards to Brock and didn't realized I had put the wrong zip code on it. I went back to PO , but it was already gone. The good news was that somewhere it was picked up as address and zip code did not match. About a week later it was returned to me and was soon on its way to correct address.

I heard back from the seller... tell me if this makes sense?

My question I sent to him when I saw the tracking number changed:
"Did you re-send the card? Why did the tracking number change???"

                        His response:
"No, when I orignally printed labels, I printed a label prior to work, and was going to ship when I got home, I ended up getting stuck for 2 extra shifts due to call offs, when I got home the label I had printed was no longer good. I guess they only give you have 24 hours to print them or they are null and void, so I printed a new one, and that is what I used to ship your Irvin. I did however get with my post office postmaster, and he conceded that your Irvin was misdelivered, he was able to put in a claim to where he will be notified if anyone turns in that tracking number, and then in turn notify me, and said sometimes this happens anywhere from 1-2 weeks. He also was going to email the postmaster in your post office asking the carrier to ask people along his route if anyone got anything that wasn't theirs. I also filed a complaint with the USPS customer service. I'd say it might be in your best interest right now to open an item not received case, and we can get the ball rolling on getting your money back, if the card doesn't end up being located and delivered to you"

-I opened a case for it so I can at least get my money back... and hopefully I'll see another one of these in my lifetime, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for all your concerns and kind words and encouragement. I guess it could be worse...

it is true in pp shipping that you can only print labels for 24 hours. he may have went ahead & paid for shipping and didn't print the label. the rest of the story sounds like BS though. It may have been a short term loan for him.

Well, hopefully you'll at least get your money back. Did you check the new tracking number? Does it say where that one went? In our facility (I work for the USPS) our computer room employees can track down to exactly what container the piece was actually loaded onto and where it is exactly going and contact the facility it is in route too and get it going back to it's real destination.

It has the same shipping date, but no further info. I think it said Pre-Arrival and it hasn't been updated for 2 days. Get this tho, went back to his seller profile and guess what... I'm not the only one he's doing this to! I wasn't going to post his user id but since this isn't an isolated incident I feel obligated. The first negative feedback he received on Oct. 1 was the date I purchased the Irvin and he had 100% when I purchased. What a scum bag...
