Are these plates for real?

A buddy of mine sent these to me, and there is no markings on them. He said they may be suspect, but he thought I would like them anyway.

Anyone have a clue on these?

Top one looks like a 1998 Collectors' Edge Advantage - Since the Edge logo was in red and white I don't know if it would have been visible on any but maybe a magenta plate...Let me check my PC I have some of these cards and can get a full color shot up later...There have been a lot of these showing up on Ebay lately...Edge and Wild Card especially...

I was thinking that they may very well be authentic.

My thoughts were that they came out the back door of a card manufacturers shop &/or they came out the front door before people really took an interest in them. The ones that come out today are trimmed & have some sort of labeling on them, but I was thinking that these became available before any of that was even thought of.

Pictures - The Advantage set DID NOT have the Edge logo on the front of the card...



There was a parallel where the Advantage 98 was done in gold but the base was black and almost invisible

The candidate for the other card is the Super Bowl XXXII set by edge as well - again no logo on the front of the card.



Given the multilayered look to the graphics it would explain the missing details in a plate of only one color.

I would side with Dave on authenticity...despite documentation they look the part and would likely not be worth the effort to fake - too tedious a process ---

Cool guys, thanks for the insight on these. They are cool cards, and a buddy just sent them to me, so they didn't cost me anything. Which is pretty sweet too! Pretty happy to have them in my collection regardless! They are certainly unique!
