Football Cards & Scale Model Aircraft

To my fellow forum members,

I know that every year, things start to slow down during the combine as far as new products are concerned. It's at its apex, right after the draft that sets like Score and Bowman become available. Last year, I quietly awaited ever so patiently for the first products to be released. This year is a different story.

I have been at MENTIS therapy for 6 months now, during my time there, I worked on speech, memory, cognition, and physical therapy. Interestingly enough, MENTIS requested to see my football card collection. How weird was that, as I brought in my Brett Favre, Andrew Luck, and many more cards to say the least, MENTIS was diligently finding me another avenue to add on to my life.

I started at a day trip to Hobby Lobby and found a small yet simple F4U Cosair to build. I was immediately taken back to almost 40 years ago as a child building scale models. After a 40 year haitus, I became excited and went ahead and built a P-61 Black Widow. This build is in the non-sports card showcase. Please stop by and take some time to look at my new hobby. My next project will be a P-40 "Flying Tiger"! It's a smaller scale so that I don't get too overwhelmed.

Sometime ago, Sports Card Album ran a contest in regards to whom would have the most Matt Forte cards, unbeknownst to my knowledge, it was I that had the most Matt Forte cards. I received a email stating that I won and that I would receive a Auto Patch Forte card. Cool! This was several months ago, I forgot about it and thought nothing of it, until yesterday. A box with a Sports Card Album cap was sent to me with not only the promised prized Forte card but several hundred more cards as well. You can bet that I wrote a email thanking the SCA committee for their gracious and generous cards. They were just happy to hear from me. Below is just a simple breakdown of this lot. As the weeks go by, I'll organize and caterogorize the cards and properly post these cards on this thread. Until then, enjoy. I must add that now my "Flying Tiger" is gonna have to be put on hold.

Some nice cards there Toshi. With my dad being in the Air Force, I was big into model planes myself during the 70's. Used to have them hanging from the ceiling of my bedroom. Ahh the memories of my long gone youth.

Those were some nostalgic memories! I too had aircraft hanging from my ceiling. My dad was also a veteran of the Air Force, he was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany SACOM (Strategic Air Command).

On December 7, 1942 my dad and my great grandmother was shopping in downtown Honolulu in the early morning. My dad told me; "I saw these airplanes flying above, then it started raining". My great grandmother replied; "That's not rain, they are shooting at us". Dad said; "Why are the Americans shooting at us"? Great Grandmother replied; "Those aren't American planes, they have the red circle on the wings, these are Japanese planes"!

As they ran home, my dad could see smoke billowing from Pearl Harbor! Once home, great grandmother burned anything in Japanese including photos. She then proudly displayed an American flag. Later in that month, they were relocated as the U.S. realized that they lived in the vicinity of Pearl Harbor. Due to her burning the photos, I have no photos of my Great grandparents. Recently, my daughter asked about what her great great grandparents looked like, I told her this story.

Still, thus inspiration had motivated a great uncle to fight in the all Japanese American 442nd. battalion in Italy and Spain. They are the most decorated battalion in the history of the United States military.

Dad enlisted just before the Korean War started, he mentioned that his most scariest job was to post guard in Florida at the oil refineries during the Cuban Missle Crisis. He said that if this happened, this war was truly to end all wars and human lives through mutual nuclear destruction. How crazy man is? Yet we are capable of such love and the arts.

Mrs. Toshi has always been supportive in my (And her hobby now) of football card collecting. She is always positive and excited of the next pull. In her case a hit. There's only two products that she dislikes, the 1951 Topps Magic and The American Tobacco Company T3 Turkey Red baseball cabinet cards of 1910. The set consists of 100 baseball designs, a less stressful acquisition of baseball cards as oppose to the 1911 T-205 set, not the original set, but the modern versions of the vintage cards. I will also assume that she, upon seeing the originals will also dislike the Magic and Turkey Red sets as well. Brett, has been as supportive if not over zealous in the hobby having a collecting partner in of as of myself. Mrs. Toshi and Brett with my daughter whom only enjoys opening packs and also pulls some really great hits like my most recent pull from the National Card Show in 2014 here at Cleveland, Ohio was the 2012 Panini Absolute Andrew Luck RPA. She picked the hobby box out of a dozen other Absolute hobby boxes. Going back to the subject, Brett also dislikes Magic and Turkey Red. I on the other hand absolutely love the vintage as well as modern sets as well.

I bring the Magic set up as within this upcoming lot of after all the autos, memorabilia, and numbered inserts, will be a decent stack of Magic cards. Why talk about this set when I have the Forte card and many abundantly more? Because if you noticed, Topps was smart enough not to change the design graphics and some of the inserts from the 2012 debut set. You almost can't tell the difference, unless you carefully look into whom or which rookie played during the 2012 or the 2013 seasons.

Below I've started with the hits that I like, down to the base cards of which I like them all. So the base cards are posted as such, in which there is no order of like nor dislike of any base card, it's just posted in this way according to CCW's formatting system. Please enjoy this lot as much as I enjoy these wonderful cards.

I re-read the thread. Please forgive my odd sentences, the therapists at MENTIS insists that I start to at least write some portion of the threads myself instead of the getting of help assistance from Mrs. Toshi and or my daughter. If you don't understand something, please feel free to correct me as you see fit, this does not insult me. It will actually help me in any future of threads and personal dialogue and reading of which is my most weakest issues.

After my accident, I forgot my math. Hah! An Asian, unable to do math? Ya right! My people are suppose to be excellent at math! Let's just say, I actually enjoy using the calculator on my iPhone and iPad. It's much easier than you think, and when there's a complex question, I'll have the answer first. LOL!

Here are one of my favorite types of special issue cards that I enjoy most. Why do I enjoy these types of specialty cards? Most collectors don't take mind to these type of sets. My most cherished and in actuality one of the financially high set is the 2012 Panini POTW (Player of The Week) set. I actually own the complete set. If forum members recall, this specialty card set was released in a blaster box of 2012 contenders as a Target only exclusive! In my library of which you can go to from the link below, I have the complete set posted under the title of 2012 Panini POTW set. Or something close to that phrase I think?

See, I'm the wrong person to remember things of this nature! My short term memory blows! But what's great is when Mrs. Toshi tells me something to do, I forget it and use my injury as a valid excuse. So she now writes a note with the "Honey Do (Dew) List" monicker. I will conveniently forget that there was a list at all, don't tell Mrs. Toshi but sometimes I know there's a list but I blame my injury for my forgetfulness. Yikes, that's being an anus. LOL!

I need to stop this. If there is such a thing as Karma, I need to tread lightly as I just might get early dementia! LOL! Then I'll really forget that there was a HDL at all! Oh, boy, then I'll really be screwing my buttocks! LOL!
