The Los Angeles Angels have hired New York Yankees executive Billy Eppler as their new general manger, a source confirmed to ESPN.com's Andrew Marchand.
Eppler, an assistant general manager for the Yankees who finished second to Jerry Dipoto when the Angels were hiring a GM in late 2011, had also in recent years been a candidate for the Padres' GM job before they hired A.J. Preller.
Dipoto was hired last month by the Mariners as their general manager less than three months after resigning from the Angels following a power struggle with manager Mike Scioscia.
Eppler has spent the past 16 years working his way up through the ranks of the Colorado Rockies (2000-2004) and Yankees. His background is mostly in analytics, but he also has experience on the scouting side.
