Adrian Beltre, Texas Rangers agree to 2-year, $36 million contract extension
The Texas Rangers and Adrian Beltre have agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $18 million per year, according to MLB.com.
Beltre, 37, was set to become a free agent at the end of this season, when the six-year contract he signed in January 2011 expires.
Beltre has long been a priority for Texas.
"We would like Adrian to finish his career as a Ranger," general manager Jon Daniels said last year.
Beltre is hitting .302 with two home runs and nine RBIs through the Rangers' first 11 games this season.
He is a four-time Gold Glove and four-time Silver Slugger award winner, and he has appeared in four All-Star Games. He is in his 19th season in the league, and if he plays through this extension, he will have spent more seasons (eight) with the Rangers than any other team.
