  • My 2015-16 National Treasures Project - Looking for people's opinions!!!

So, over the past few months (or more) I have been doing small projects with my collections. I have been taking the cost of a particular box, and using that money to buy up stuff in that product of just the teams I collect. Have completed two, and a couple I found there wasn't enough in there that I wanted to complete the project. So, I stopped. One of these is basketball which I will highlight here. I wanted to break down what I did and what I got, and I wanted to see if people would have been happy with this stuff if they had actually busted a box and found these cards inside. Again, take into consideration if you were a collector of the team I highlighted when you answer the questions. I am looking for true feedback on this. Thanks!

    Comments :
This was my first one I did with basketball. I like what I got. Again, nothing of super high significance, but I did pick up nice GU/AUs of Ray Allen and Rick Fox, and a couple nice Autos (Dave Cowens, Frank Ramsey and JoJo White). The stuff I listed is just the stuff I purchased. I am really happy with this stuff. I basically got two boxes worth of cards for just over 40% of what I box costs normally. I know, again, nothing huge like a Logoman or anything, but I rarely pull stuff like that out of my boxes anyway. And whatever I would have pulled, I am basically guaranteeing I would not have been able to trade it for this much stuff I don't think. Anyway, another successful project!
    ==============================================

Questions I would ask of you...

    1) If you collected the Celtics, would you have been happy with what I picked up?
    2) Would you be super disappointed since there aren't any super high end cards?
    3) Should I continue to buy cards this way, or should I revert to my old ways of buying boxes and then trading those for cards I want?
    4) Do you really think I could do this well if I reverted to my old ways?
    5) Any other products I should consider doing this with that you think I could get my money's worth in Celtics for the prices of a box?

Collecting any Boston Sports (base, insert,GU,Auto) All Teams (Red Sox,Celtics,Patriots,Bruins)
    Also collect UNH Football/Hockey cards
Also now collecting any cards including all dupes of all the following :
MLB : Brian Wilson (Giants, Dodgers), Chris Carpenter (Blue Jays, Cardinals), Sam Fuld (Rays), Mike Flanagan (Orioles, Blue Jays), Phil Plantier (Padres, Red Sox), Jeff Locke (Pirates)
NFL : Kendall Reyes (Chargers), Greg Landry (Lions), David Ball (Bears), Jerry Azumah (Bears), Dwayne Sabb (Patriots), Dan Kreider (Steelers), Ricky Santos (no pro cards)
    NBA : Matt Bonner (Spurs)
NHL : Steve Leach, James VanRiemsDyk, Jason Krog, Eric Boguniecki, Andy Brickley, Ty Conklin, Kevin Dean, Rod Langway, Bryan Muir, Daniel Winnik
I unfortunately can no longer afford to trade outside the US. Even rates to Canada are way too high now!

National Treasures is high end, but book values are not that high. Most important thing is you get what you want for your PC instead of wasting money on tradebait/junk.

Spending $216 on 22 hits for PC is a good deal. No high end cards, if one was a Larry Bird Auto that would be different. But you did get a Ray Allen Auto out of it which go for a good amount of money.

Collectors spend money all the time and hope to pull something good to flip or PC item for themselves. I think $216 to get your team is a good deal.

This way is better than buying box. Its hit or miss the old way of buying regular box and hoping for the best.

    Maybe Spectra?

Thanks Kerwin. I was thinking Spectra might be a nice option. I am going to look into it for sure. I got a Jae Crowder auto out of there already. And I know Isaiah is in there. But the other guys I have a bunch of stuff of. The NT stuff there were so many cool names in there, even though not high end.

As for the Bird stuff, nothing of his on this, but I have a couple of his autos already, so maybe I never get another one. I think Spectra is a good option though. Might be looking into that in a couple of weeks. I have been thinking about doing these, but giving the prices a couple of weeks to calm down before I start. I am going to look into it for sure. Thanks bud.
