  • Pacers Sign Kevin Seraphin To 2 Years $3.6 Million

Report: Pacers, Kevin Seraphin agree to two-year, $3.6 million deal - CBSSports.com

Here's some very beginning-of-September free-agency news: big man Kevin Seraphin has agreed to a two-year, $3.6 million deal with the Indiana Pacers, according to The Vertical's Shams Charania. There is a team option on the second year.

Seraphin, 26, spent last season with the New York Knicks after five years with the Washington Wizards, and it did not go well. In New York, he had the least efficient season of his career, shooting 41 percent and almost never getting to the free throw line. He struggled both finishing on the inside -- historically a strength of his -- and shooting from midrange. In 48 games with the Knicks, he tried to be more of a passer than he was with the Wizards, but that part of his game still cannot be called a strength.

In Indiana, Seraphin will again have to battle just to get on the court. The Pacers will likely start Thaddeus Young and Myles Turner in the frontcourt, with Al Jefferson, Lavoy Allen and Jeremy Evans taking the backup minutes. Seraphin is essentially a much less effective version of Jefferson, though he is a better rim protector and rebounder.
