Sources: Suns waive guard Archie Goodwin

The Phoenix Suns waived guard Archie Goodwin on Monday, league sources told The Vertical.

Goodwin, 22, is expected to garner significant interest on the waiver wire. The 6-foot-5 Goodwin is a dynamic athlete and has shown flashes as a scorer and playmaker.

Goodwin was in the final year of his rookie contract at $2.1 million.

The Suns had been in trade discussions with several teams to move Goodwin, but were unable to reach an agreement and informed Goodwin of his release Monday, league sources said.

Goodwin averaged 8.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19.5 minutes per game in 57 games last season. He was briefly made Phoenix’s starting guard alongside Devin Booker from mid-January to mid-February and had seven 20-point performances and one double-double (18 points and 12 assists).

Goodwin was the No. 29 overall pick in 2013 after one season at Kentucky.
