  • Harry Potter Movie Card Collectors -- I Know You're Out There!

I see the Harry Potter movie-based trading cards on e-bay, and I see the prices being paid for them. Heck! I've paid some of the prices for them, so I know I'm not the only one who's an avid collector. But, man, you guys are hard to find. There aren't any forums for HP Movie card collectors -- not the Trading Card game, but the Artbox and CardsInc. sets.

So, I'm looking for others who are interested, and have been collecting these cards for a while. My "friend" (seeing that I'm now a card "addict" I'm not sure whether he's a friend or enabler) gave me two boxes of Deathly Hallows 1 cards and the base sets for Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets for Christmas. They all fit into a 1 1/2 " binder. Now, I have 8 binders and will need another one when DH 2 cards are released this summer! OMG!

    I have so many questions:
    • Why did Wizards of the Coast only put out one set of HP cards...and, why aren't they worth more since they were discontinued?
    • What differences are there in the base cards from the hobby boxes and base cards from the retail boxes?
    • Why do the UK (CardsInc) base sets have two different backs - one shiny, one dull? What's the difference? Does anyone have a complete list of the UK cards available?
And these are just some of my questions. If there are any other HP movie card fans out there, step forward, please....I'm getting really lonely here.

I've done some research for you, and here's what I've found in searching the web. I believe you have answered your own questions with the second and third questions you've asked above. It appears that the hobby version is the shiny back and the retail version is the dull back. This is very common with sports cards regarding retail/hobby differences. Also, I see the product was a quick sell out. So the words discontinued can also be that the fact the product sold out and there won't be any more releases from that one set as all the 'hits' have been dispursed into the already sold out boxes. As far as the checklist you've requested I hope this helps.....

      Thank you

Hey, thank you for your reply. It may be that the CardsInc. backs are different due to one being a retail and one be a hobby box. I've been to Jeff Allenders House of List, and he has quite a bit on the Artbox stuff, but no one seems to know much about the UK cards.

If you should come across any info on the UK cards, could you let me know? Thanks again for your quick reply.

Right now, I've got all but a few "stragglers" for the DH 1 set. A couple of the really expensive autograph and prop or costume cards, maybe 5 or 6 total, that I don't have.

I've got all of the base sets except the UK base sets (I have a partial with shiny back and a partial with dull back). I have all of the foil chase cards for each of the US sets, or have the few stray cards for them on order

It seems, since The Prisoner of Azkaban was the first set released, and then followed up with sets from the first two movies, they went all out with it. There are so many chase sets, parallels and such, it's going to be a real challenge to get a really impressive set going. While I have all of the US hobby base sets, chase sets, etc., and all of the retail base set (except 1 card, which I will find somewhere), I'm concentrating on the US hobby sets by Artbox right now. I'll get the retail and UK sets later.

I'm working "backwards" now that I have DH 1 almost completed, I'm working on Half-Blood Prince. But, if I see cards from the other sets at reasonable prices, I'll pick them up. I plan to put together "Mini Starter Sets" to sell on e-bay which would include the 90-card base set, a box topper, a couple of chase cards, and promo or other cards for one price. The price will depend on the set and what's included. I think that might help people who are interested in collecting to get started by getting the base set out of the way and having a start on the additional sets.
