  • Going old school for a break... 7 jumbo packs of 2008 Topps S1!!!

I went to one of my old favorite shops (the one by me closed a while ago and the only other store is in the Detroit area) after spending the day at Motor City Casino. Before anybody asks, I didn't win much on any games and came away with a $20 loss (which I planned as my max). Anyways, on the table was a box of 2008 Topps Series One JUMBO PACKS (only 7 of the 10) for a whopping $3 + tax. No way I'm passing that up as I remember them being $10 when they first came out. I was hoping that nobody got the 1 auto and 1 game used card that is guaranteed per box.

    The Results:
TBD - but I'm thinking 80-90% of the 330 card set w/ a few doubles

Gold Foil - Ryan Garko, James Loney, Ryan Church, Jose Reyes, Lyle Overbay, Ramon Hernandez, Howie Kendrick, Terry Francona, Hank Blalock, Paul Byrd, Chien-Ming Wang, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Kelvim Escobar, Chris Duffy

Trading Card History - Chien-Ming Wang, Tim Lincecum, Cameron Maybin, Grady Sizemore, Pedro Martinez, Ichiro, Roger Clemens

Own The Game - Magglio Ordonez, Alex Rodriguez, Carlos Pena, Prince Fielder, Miguel Cabrera, John Lackey, Brad Penny

Year In Review - Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, Todd Helton, Jose Reyes, Ian Snell, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Adrian Beltre

    Mantle HRH - 504, 505, 506, 510, 511, 512, 513

    Mantle Story - 46, 53, 55

All Rookie Team - Roger McDowell, Shawn Green, Mike Piazza, Lou Piniella, Roy Oswalt, Garrett Atkins, Jermaine Dye (decent stuff overall so far...)

Campaign 2008 - Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney, Barack Obama (yes, the good one!)

Campaign 2008 Gold - John McCain (not bad either)

Gold #xxxx/2008 - Norris Hopper, Kaz Matsui PH (yuck!)

Game Used - Manny Ramirez jsy (a good player there!)

Auto - Jason Bay 50th Anniversary Rookie Team #17/25!!! (wow, both hits and this one is really good!)

    Final Score:
Rookie Cards - C (nothing stood out, but saw a few decent players)
Inserts/Parallels - B (good quality, but some players are junk now)
Memorabilia - B+ (a 500 HR member and possible HOFer is good. Caught steroid user makes this come up short)
Autographs - A+ (got a great auto, the book doesn't have it listed of course )
Box Value - A (I feel I could at least double my money here before the Bay)

All will be available when I 'open shop' again around Thanksgiving... anybody have an estimate price on the auto (2008 Topps 50th Anniversary All Rookie Team Autographs #ARA-JB Jason Bay)?

    Thanks,
    Zack

I couldn't find anything about the Bay auto in the last two Beckett's I have. However, there is some info. about the 50th aniv.... in the December 2009 issue. In it it says there was a print run of 25 serial #ed sets and no pricing due to scarcity. His gu books 60. Nice pull.

The main items Im looking to trade for are
    Baseball HOFers Autos I need
    Orioles Autos I need
    Baseball HOFers GU I need
    Orioles GU I need
    Vintage Orioles I need 1950s through 1970
However other offers will be considered

I did notice just as much in my book - GU version /50 listed, no auto listed anywhere, /25 means no likely BV. I was kind of hoping that somebody has seen one of them sell so I could get an idea as to what I could get for it.

      Useful information though, thanks.
      Thanks,
      Zack
