Within minutes of the announcement that Brett Favre’s consecutive games played streak would end because of injury, Favre’s official website showed an offer for streak commemorative signed footballs.
Priced at $499, the timing of the announcement generated a national buzz that wasn’t very flattering.
Favre began the streak in 1992.* It ended with his sprained shoulder keeping him out of the game against the New York Giants in Detroit Monday night.* While Favre has started 297 regular season games, the streak actually extends well over 300 counting playoffs.
“We are now offering Official NFL football signed by Brett with inscription: 297 starts 1992-2010,” reads an announcement on OfficialBrettFavre.com.
The balls are being pre-sold with Favre apparently ready to deliver the autographs within a month.* A portion of all proceeds will go to the Favre 4 Hope Foundation.
The balls come with a certificate of authenticity and a picture of Favre from the signing as well as holograms.
