2012 "The Year of The Quarterback's"!
I'm 46 years old. I saw my first televised NFL game in 2009! Yes, I've been hiding under a rock and just crawled out! LOL! The game I saw was Minnesotta Vikings at Green Bay Packers. Since then I've been a huge fan of "Brett Favre"! My first attempt at collecting started with a '91 Pro-Set Favre rookie card, '91 Upper Deck Favre rookie card, and finally followed by a Packers/Jets/Vikings cards of Favre. It wasn't until a year later that my daughters boyfriend got me a '95 Upper Deck relic Favre card for my birthday. He followed that up with a A. Rodgers Press Pass Die Cut and a P. Manning Xceptional Die Cut card. I can say at that point I was hooked! I started my collection in earnest in mid-December of 2012. I now have 4000 cards. I am addicted! I was told that my choice in collecting cards in 2012 couldn't be a better time due to the draft picks. My first hit (It was a base card, but made no difference) was a 2012 Topps Retail Chrome of RGIII. I then started to go to my local hobby shop "Collectors Palace" and purchased my first hobby packs of 2012 Topps Platinum and 2012 Panini Certified. I was shocked at the price point for these packs. Remember? I said I'm 46 years old? I recall a pack of football cards at $0.05 and it came with a stick of gum. I would then chew my gum (Which is why I bought the cards) take the card, a clothes pin and stick it in my bike spokes! WOW! I wonder at times if I stuck a high priced item in my bike spokes. My other notable hits were Andrew Luck, Alfred Morris, Doug Martin and many many more. It will be many years before we see such a class in the NFL. I've also started collecting complete sets via the secondary market! The complete sets are 1994 Upper Deck SP, 2012 SP Authentic, 1991 Topps Stadium Club, 1992 Topps Stadium Club Series 1, Series 2, and the High Series. I've also found a 1991 Upper Deck complete set for $1.26! Yes, this is not a typo! My first ever complete set is the 2012 Panini Contenders Football Pepsi Max Rookie of The Week a 17 week set that was a "Target" Exclusive. I've started this section on the forum to see if other collectors feel the same way that I do as well as having the excitement to pull the many 2012 draft picks. Allow me to share some of my notable collectibles, regarding the 2012 QB's and players.

Here is a one of the last cards sets that were released by Panini. The final set was the 2012 Panini National Treasures. The card depicted is from the 2012 Panini Playbook Auto 7 relic (Spelled out as Seahulk) Booklet Robert Turbin #14 (46/50).

You have had some rather good luck. I started collecting as a kid. Still have most of it. Late 80s stuff. Not really worth anything but it was fun. My wife passed away September of last year at the young age of 32. I am 35. I have three kids and this is what I do now to help me deal. All I can say is cancer sucks and this hobby has been a blessing to me. I love the thrill of opening wax. Then I feel like I need to complete each set of the box I open. Lol. Did complete platinum set this year and almost done with magic n missing a few of the sp cards. I have in hand about 70 magic autos from this year. Only ones missing are the ones not on eBay. Now I am completing the limited phenom material autos. I have about 20-25 on hand of the 35. All with at least two color patches. I could not have picked a better year to start back into it. Draft class was amazing and no offense to some 13 draft really stinks on the hobby side. So yeah I do know how u feel brother. I look fwd to sharing this with my children for years to cone

I'm so sorry for your lost! Your children are your spirit and motivation. Yes, cancer sucks, it has taken family members from my wife and my family as well. I had a horrible work related accident, I'm disabled and retired, not by my choice. It's been 3 years since my accident. When I started collecting, it too has given me a whole new outlet! Yes, I'm lucky, not because I get great hits but because my wife shares this hobby with me (Read my "Old Versus New" thread). As for your collection, Platinum is absolutely awesome! Have you seen the originals of the 1950's Magic? WOW! And I definitely loved the way the Panini Limited looks. It's a simple design that shows nice examples of the players in action shots. I'm old school, I like the less is more concept! I told my collecting partner, my daughters boyfriend that I'll collect some 2013 products, if I don't feel the excitement that I had collecting in 2012 items, I'm going to purchase 2012 hobby boxes. That way I can still be excited with what is available. Some of the 2012 sets that I have not opened are Panini's Signatures, Elite, Momentum, and National Treasures. The latter being too pricy for me. For Topps products, Inception, Valor, and 5 star. Again, the latter being out of my price range. And there are still hundreds of old school items on the secondary market. As much as we enjoy collecting sports cards of people we admire, you are really the true hero here! And I thank you for connecting with me!

I have busted some of just about every product this year. Lol. I did real well with my box of nt. only one I haven't opened is five star. And to me it looks just like valor. Always been a fan of limited. Not sure why. I picked up a few more for my limited set and only need I think 3 or 4 more to be done. Only downfall is a lot of redemptions. I will be done working away in a week or so and then will update my bucket to share some of the really nice things I have acquired this past month and a half. I too am sorry to hear about ur accident. It's going to be a rough day today with my kids. But God had and still does have a plan

I can't wait to see your Platinum and Limited collection. And I would love to see your NT! The closes I got to high end is Topps Supreme and Panini Playbook, I just purchased a Leaf "Legends of The Gridiron" and pulled a dual auto 1/1 of Archie Griffin and John David Crow. I also purchased 2 Topp Archives retail blaster boxes from Walmart. I don't know how I feel about it at this time. Many years from now, as your children are leading their own lives they will remember most; "How strong dad was and how he was able to fill the roll of mom and dad! More strength to you!
