  • 1991 Topps Stadium Club

One of my goals were to see if I could put together a complete set. During my short time of collecting, Mrs. Toshi was used to purchasing for me, individual packs and a occasional hobby box. All of our purchases were modern cards printed in 2012. There was nothing that we both owned older than '12! We could not comprehend the clamour of obtaining rookie cards of current and past players. We just wanted a card of Luck and RGIII. How naive we were. We realized the gravity of rookie cards when we purchased our first Beckett magazine. WOW!

Now the realization and importance collectors put into rookie cards made sense. Both financially as well as a collective rarity. For Mrs. Toshi, she could care less, as for direction on my part, it made sense to do so. I looked up and down for rookie cards of Brett Favre, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Matt Ryan, Adrian Peterson, and Johnny Unitas to name a few. With each research attempt I made, the greater the cost! Auto, GU, limited production, and on further escalated the value of each type of card. As with any collectible, the older the card, the higher the value. Out of curiosity, I looked up a Joe Namath "Tall Boy". PSA graded 7 $3000.00. Ok! I understood the dynamics of collectibles having been previously involved in collecting stamps and coins.

Mrs. Toshi made absolute sense when she commented; "Pick one player, and take it from there". So I picked Brett Favre. I noticed one of his most popular rookie cards that stands out and identifies him was the 1991 Topps Stadium Club Series. Looking for one was not difficult, finding one under $35.00 to $40.00 was a chore. What I could not understand was the individual rookie card at premium prices, yet a complete 500 card set at $25.00! I assume most collectors do not want to deal with storing 499 cards. I was so excited at finding such a deal, I was able to purchase two sets at $25.00 each, both sets included the shipping and handling. I guess another issue is with all sports cards produced during the '90s. On a value stand point for the purchaser, these cards printed during this era are relatively inexpensive to an almost ludicrous; "Take them for free, I don't want it anymore"! Needless to say, I got my first rookie card, and was searching for my next. This was as easy as the '91 set. Well almost as easy. 1992 Topps Stadium Club Series 1, Series 2, and High Series. The first two were a simple transaction, the latter took time and money. All in all, a goal completed, great satisfaction, and a greater understanding for the love of collecting sports cards!

I am easy, I collect any and all NFL cards. Individual players I really enjoy are Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck, RGIII, and Russell Wilson. My passion is Favre rookie cards and vintage cards.
