My "Mail Day Surprise"

It is no surprise that many a member shares their "Mail Day" on "Football Showcase"! Every card I've seen are either autos, relics, serial numbered, or a combination of all three. As I view everyone's thread, I wonder how amazing their collection must be. Many members whom view Mrs. Toshi's and My hobby box breaks, proclaim that we are lucky. Although that might be the case, I feel everyone is lucky. Many cards that I've seen from members are of historical significance, from players long gone to cards with historical data, and most amazing are the cards with actual tickets of the game.

I have to say, I don't know much as far as baseball is concerned, but I am amazed by cards that depict Babe Ruth and pieces of his actual bat! It's almost inconceivable. And to think, my people (Japanese) actually do very well in baseball! And here I am, absolutely clueless. At times I wonder how my people would do in football? Lets take a quick look at these stats!

I'm 5'9, 175lb. In Japan I am a giant among my people! Put me on the gridiron, and I would be crushed into little pieces of dust. And then pulverized beyond recognition! This is just at the first kickoff!!!! LOL!

So the closest I can get to the gridiron is to collect a piece of cardboard that depicts a moment in time, without being pummeled. It is this simple idea that we as humans cherish the most. To capture a moment that brings about wonderful memories of the past. Be it a card, a smell, or a feeling. This is what makes us all truly special and is a very thin line that separates us from the animal kingdom.

Every month, my daughters boyfriend will bring his moments in time. He has collected baseball, basketball, and football cards since a toddler. His fond memory is collecting these pieces of time that he and his grandfather enjoyed together. His grandfather now looks down from heaven and rejoices in seeing his grandson become a young man. The cards he shares with me are his cherished memories. Now that we are collecting partners, the time spent collecting are a extension of what his grandfather has shared. Now, allow me to share my "Mail Day" that Brett has brought over for me to add to my collection!
