To my fellow forum members,
First of all I know this is a football thread, forum members, please forgive me as not only do I not know anything about baseball, I have no bussiness starting a thread in the baseball section due to my ignorance. So allow me to share this unique card with football card enthusiast. In essence, we are all collectors of fine art pieces.
It took me several years to finally get the information regarding this card. I pulled the trigger on this card as the seller was very honest via eBay.
1) He did not know what he had.
2) It look just ok for an old card.
3) He said he could not find it listed on Beckett.
4) The BIN price was $15.00.
I tried to utilize CCW's baseball card price check. No listing. Was this forged? I placed it in a 1" lucite four screw holder, I was not disappointed. Contrary to belief, I enjoyed and basked in it's age and vintage. For several years, this card sat quietly in my collection. I would occasionally inspect the card wondering where and with whom it traversed the United States with. How many collectors were fortunate enough to hold this card in hand, forgery or not. Ultimately, I bought it as it looked really cool and the card also carried itself well, as if it had some history to it.
Fast forward to this week. Mrs. Toshi and Brett did a bunch of research, to their and my amazement, the card slowly but surely revealed it's 104 year old secret! After researching the year, and once again attempting to utilize the baseball card price check thread, this time with the accurate information, here is the finding.
1910 T-206 Piedmont Tobacco Maloney, Rochester Broncos Minor League
Book Value $100.00
All I have to say is; "With small things, there are big surprises"!
