To my fellow forum members,
In respect to our new members, I was introduced to football card collecting by my daughters boyfriend Brett Nola in December of 2012. I am a relatively new collector in this respect.
I recently have found a case from BCW supplies for a 1" lucite 4 screw slab. Unfortunately or fortunately, I also needed a case for my Pacific Crown Royale triangular lucite 3 screw slab. Due to the fact that these slabs were custom made via Pacific, just to find them on the secondary market is not only difficult but once found, they tend to carry a premium. There is a Dan Marino in one of these triangular slabs on eBay at a BIN of $199.00. I know the card has a book value of $30.00. That makes the slab a $169.00 item. Just because of the fact that a seller is asking for $199.00, it does not mean a buyer will pay such a premium. I purchased both my cards and the triangular slabs at an approximate $40.00 price point or $20.00 for each.
As you can see, there are no cases made for the Pacific products. I looked into a custom made item by a true artist in Brett's father Mr. Al Nola of Al Nola's Shoe Repair. Mr. Nola does not repair shoes from Walmart. His clients will bring in $1000.00 shoe to be custom enhanced. He has a unique skill and is truly an artist in his own right. I brought my 3 slabs to him to request a case to protect the lucite from scratches and nicks.
One idea he had was to implement a clear window to be able to view my prized collection as well as display it as such. Yes, only an artist can view things from this standpoint. I simply stated; "Please simply protect my slabs".
I would like to showcase my final product from Mr. Al Nola. The photos does not do justice. Up close, these custom leather cases can be displayed as a museum quality item. Please review the photos below.
