    National Card Show

    To my fellow forum members,

    I canceled three times. The first time, my daughter and her boyfriend Brett had wanted to purchase a VIP pass as my Father's Day gift to go to the Nationals. I forbade it. I can't see myself partaking such a large sum of money from them. Knowing that they are on their own, I remember the struggles Mrs. Toshi and I had when we first started on our own. Mind you, looking back, those were actually some of the best times in our lives. I'll always cherish that! The meager meals that turned into a banquet feast, the quite movie nights with our VCR, the simple pleasures of life.

    On the second attempt I told them I don't think I could walk the long distance throughout the IX Center. I mentioned that they should attend the show and report back what they saw. This did not sit well with my daughter, she was very upset with me. She felt that I might never be able to experience something of this magnitude again. "Life is fleeting at best" is what I was told. I guess I did a pretty good job in teaching her the laws of Toshism.

    So today at 9:00am, we piled into my trusty Kia Sedona, and headed out to Berea, Ohio past the Cleveland Airport. Once there, this is what I saw!

      Ah Toshi, what a beautiful playground. Hope you had a good time. I have never bought Absolute. Always seemed to expensive for 4/5 packs. You have to get a really nice hit to make the box worth it . Looks like you definitely picked the right box. Which version is the Luck?

        Beautiful pull on the Luck!!

        I hope to make it to a big show like that one day.....all we have around these parts are 20-30 table shows....and its the same guys, with the same stuff every time.
        Currently looking for:
        Football: The Gronk!
        Basketball: Dennis Rodman, Scottie Pippen, & Michael Jordan, 90's refractors or #rd stuff, Damon Stoudamire, Penny, etc.
        Baseball: Paul Goldschmidt & Mike Trout
        + HOFer slab bed or raw.

          It is the 2012 Panini Absolute NFL #203 BV $250.00.

          I purchased a pillow pack back in 2012 for $45.00. Since then, I've been in love with the cards. I vowed that one day I'll purchase a hobby box of Absolute. I love collecting cards that have extremely fantastic and beautifully rendered base cards. It's the base cards that you'll end up with the most so it might as well be a product that appeals to the collector. The Absolute cost $165.00 online, at the show, it was $125.00.

          Yes, I completely agree with your comment. I could have pulled a hit that was a Michael Egnew (Eggplant), but I guess that is what collecting is about. You just never know when your next hit is.

          My daughter picked the box, she has the Mrs. Toshi touch. Brett purchased a 2013 Hot Rookies hobby box and also got 5 redemption packs. I can't tell if it was a good break as I do not know any of the players he pulled, but the cards look great!

                Sure, pulling the 2012 Absolute Luck was a perfect ending to a perfect day. The whole atmosphere felt as if hundreds of card shops that were high end as well as entry level (Low end) amassed itself onto the convention center. From odd ball memorabilia to the very first viewing of THE CARD T-206 1911 Honus Wagner, was a new and heralded experience for me.

                What I got out of it is the time shared with my daughter and the ever lasting bonding with Brett. His comment touched me the most, in that he recalls the time spent with his grandfather of which whom passed away in that they both engulfed themselves in collecting sports cards. I will never be able to replace that lost, but I am able to start a whole new beginning for Brett and I. While I write this thread and have forum members read this thread as well, I'll never forget this very special day, and I'm sure there will be many more to come.

                  Like someone said I hope to make it to one of these shows in the near future, that Absolute Luck is very nice man, comgrats on the nice hit toshi. Thanks for sharing some photos also now I will know what to expect when I go.

                      Everyone whom has a passion for this hobby should definitely go to a show, big or small, at least once for the experience. Thank you for the read & reply.

                            I am easy, I collect any and all NFL cards. Individual players I really enjoy are Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck, RGIII, and Russell Wilson. My passion is Favre rookie cards and vintage cards.
