Rays agree with Damon, Manny for 1 year (AP)

A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press that Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez have agreed to one-year contracts with the Tampa Bay Rays. Damon gets $5.25 million and the chance to earn $750,000 in bonuses based on attendance, the person said. Ramirez gets $2 million. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Friday because the agreements had not been announced.

Im surprised Damon got more money than Manny did. For the Rays who lost almost everyone on their team, these are solid moves. It is only for one season anyways.

Found this from a Yahoo article about the Rays signing both of them.

            • "All the Rays need now is Trot Nixon to unretire & the band is officially back together?"

            • It's an "effort to attract more old people to baseball games in Florida."

            • "With the signings ... the Rays are a lock for winning the 2004 World Series."

            • Along with plenty of jabs about the Rays hoping nobody hits the ball to left field.
