I'm sure the news that Matt Kemp participating in the Home Run Derby will become official after the Angels/Dodgers Sunday Night Baseball Game. Prince Fielder wants him on NL Derby team.

Every Derby contestant needs someone to throw to them. I have one choice for Kemp this year. His name is Ted Lilly, who has served up 16 HRs this season to opposing players. Those 16 HRs are tied for 3rd most this season in the National League.

2011 Home Run Derby - Matt Kemp To Participate

Matt Kemp will participate in the 2011 Home Run Derby in Phoenix.

Prince Fielder will ask him. {MLB reports} Beto Duran just tweeted that Kemp will accept when asked.


The Home Run Derby had a little twist this year. Prince Fielder of the Milwaukee Brewers and David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox were named the first ever captains of the National League and American League squads for the 2011 Home Run Derby. Fielder won the Derby in 2009 and Ortiz is the defending champion.

State Farm and Major League Baseball will donate a significant amount of money for charity through the event. The donations will be made as follows:

• $150,000 (Winning captain's charity)
• $100,000 (Boys & Girls Club of America)
• $25,000 (Losing captain's charity)

Unless Granderson hits a slump and Gonzalez gets on fire? Welcome to the last month. Granderson is on pace to do something he has never done before and that usually doesn't happen with 30 year olds. AGone will out homer the rest of the year hands down, and I would bet he catches and passes him.
