The news of Shane Victorino hitting the DL today sent the Twitter universe into a frenzy. They began naming replacements including Andre Ethier (Dodgers RF) and Andrew McCutchen (Pirates CF). The best one comes from @MikeSciosciasTI: "Bruce Bochy gets to choose who replaces Victorino. Come on down, Cody Ross!" If you don't get it, Mike explains: "The joke was about Bochy's Vogelsong-esque homerism."
Ethier lost to Victorino in the Final Vote that ended yesterday. With Victorino going on the DL, it opened up a spot on the National League roster and Bruce Bochy got to choose a replacement.
It was an easy pick for Bochy since he listed Ethier as one of the candidates for the Final Vote.
This will be Ethier's second straight All-Star appearance and second overall selection. Phoenix is Ethier's hometown, where the 2011 All-Star Game will be hosted.
He will join Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw on the National League roster. Three Dodgers going to the All-Star Game in a season that has been disappointing so far.
