Boston Red Sox's John Lackey to have Tommy John surgery - ESPN Boston

Boston Red Sox pitcher John Lackey will have Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, new general manager Ben Cherington announced at his introductory news conference Tuesday, essentially ending the starter's 2012 season before it begins.

"He knows he's a much better pitcher than he showed in 2011," Cherington said. "We look forward to having him as part of the staff, hopefully in 2013."

I don't know if things could get much worse for the Red Sox. Who knows when they will see their first bright spot in the off-season.

Im just picking on you a little here when I say..... Their offseason started when they didnt make the playoffs. So, the first bright spot of their offseason was when the Yankees were knocked out of the playoffs.

They have the rivalry, but that's every other team's bright spot too.
Way too many random and unfocused collections.

              Sketch card commissions? You betcha!

I consider this a bright spot. He now won't be pitching for the Sox next year. That in itself is a good thing.

Maybe this gives the guy some time to think about things as well.
