  • Twins Agree to Deal with Josh Willingham

The Twins have agreed to sign Josh Willingham, reports ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. The multi-year contract is pending a physical. Willingham is represented by Sosnicke Cobbe Sports, and the deal almost certainly takes the Twins out of the running for Michael Cuddyer.

The two sides are very close to wrapping up the agreement, which Joe Christensen of The Star Tribune says is worth $21MM over three years.

Its a solid deal, Cuddyer wants to much money in my opinion and Willingham offensively is an upgrade.

willingham is not that much of an upgrade, i dont feel. cuddy had a better ave and more speed. a plus for cuddy also was that he is more versatile, i hope the twins still sign him.

I'd be happy with either of them being the 3rd/4th outfielder hitting in the six or seven hole. If you hoping for more than that, I'm afraid you might be disappointed.

What do you mean Cuddy was the Twins MVP last year. Also, the most consistant OF for the last 3-4 yrs. I believe that is how long it has been since Torii left.

I like the Twins and Cuddy was great last year, but I don't think you can count on that year in and year out. I hope he proves me wrong. Their team had so many injuries last year. Otherwise, he would have been batting 5th or 6th. Realistically, I would see him batting .270 and hitting 20 homeruns. He had one year where he hit over 30 and the rest are all in the teens. Even last year he only batted .280 with 20 homeruns.

But that was with no protection like he had a couple of years ago. If Morneau comes back and can protect him he can do the 30hr and hit .300 again. Willingham, I believe has always hit below .270. He is also very one dimensional and Morneau will need to DH to keep from having the symptoms coming back.

I would take Cuddy over Willingham, but I'm not sure he will ever get 30 homeruns again. I see Cuddy being a poor man's Jason Werth. Just my opinion - I hope I am wrong. He is a good player and appears to be a good guy.
