  • Drew Smyly Wins First Career Game in Tigers 7-5 Victory

The Detroit Tigers snapped their 5 game losing streak today beating the New York Yankees 7-5.

Drew Smyly pitched 6 innings giving up 2 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and had 7 strikeouts to earn his first career win.

For the 2nd straight game, Austin Jackson got on base to lead off the game and then stole 2nd base. This time though, he scored a run. After a walk to Prince Fielder, Andy Dirks hit a 3 run home run, his first of the season, to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

After a Nick Swisher home run in the bottom of the inning, the Tigers came back in the 2nd inning with base hits by Alex Avila and Austin Jackson, Brennan Boesch hit a RBI double, then Miguel Cabrera hit a 2 RBI single to give the Tigers a 6-1 lead.

Miguel Cabrera hit an opposite field home run in the 8th inning to make it a 7-2 game; it was Cabrera's 7th home run on the season.

Phil Coke gave up 1 run in the 7th inning, Octavio Dotel pitched a scoreless 8th inning, and Jose Valverde gave up 3 runs in the 9th inning and made it very interesting, but the Tigers still won which is what matters.

Max Scherzer takes the mound against CC Sabathia tommorow as the Tigers go for a series win.
