  • Albert Pujols Unhappy with Hitting Coach

Pujols unhappy Angels coach Hatcher reveals hitters' meeting details - CBSSports

Before the first game of each series, clubs routinely hold hitters' meetings to review scouting reports on the pitchers they'll be facing, and pitchers' meetings to go over the opposing team's lineup.

    These meetings are standard stuff.

Except when you're going as badly as the Angels, and except when Albert Pujols is involved.

Pujols was among the Angels hitters who spoke at what was as much pep rally as meeting before Monday's series opener with the Twins, according to hitting coach Mickey Hatcher.

Hatcher told a couple of Angels beat reporters before the game that Pujols essentially stood up and told his teammates that he won't be flailing as he is all season, and that he's got first-hand experience with clubs that have conquered losing streaks and hitting slumps to win in the end.

Not exactly overly sexy stuff. Nevertheless, Pujols was not happy after Monday's game when he learned that secrets were shared.

"Mickey should have never told you guys that," Pujols said. "That stuff needs to be private. He should have never told the media.

"What we talked about at the meeting, not disrespecting Mickey, but that stuff should stay behind closed doors."

Pujols said he intends to speak with Hatcher about the matter.

The frusteration is obvious now, don't see what the big deal is and why Pujols is so mad about though.

Just excuses why his overpaid a$$ isn't hitting, he shouldn't need a preview of whats to come if he is truly that good

Why would he need hitting coach? Did he forget how to hit? He was at a point where he had a swing. Are there new forms of hitting he does not know about? Hitting=putting bat to ball....learned that in Little League. Whats changed?)
Always looking for Gary Carter, Carlton Fisk, Nolan Ryan, Yogi Berra.

If anyone in the game is going to be paid a boatload of money, then Pujols is the most deserving.

Doesn't need a preview of what's coming? Being well prepared and studying the opposing pitcher is what made him so good at what he does. If you were going to build a house, would you hire an architect to draw up the blueprints, a contractor to estimate supplies/labor, and buy a plot of land to build the house on? Of course you would! You wouldn't drive around until you rounded up a truckload of day laborers, dump them off at a lumberyard and tell them to build you a house. Preparation is the key. A lot of players are subscribing to an app for their cell phones that tracks their stats.

Pujols is clearly frustrated and understandably so. Did Hatcher commit a cardinal sin? Probably not. But a lot of things that are said in the locker room are expected to stay there.

he's not blameing the coach for his hitting..just upset he told the media stuff he said in the meeting...

coming to a new organization there will be some learning to do on both parts as to what is routine and not...
