  • Max Scherzer Strikes Out 10 in a 5-1 Tigers Win


    The Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins today 5-1.

    Miguel Cabrera got the Tigers a quick 1-0 lead after a solo home run in the first inning; it's his 30th of the season.

    According to Brian Britten Cabrera is the first Tiger to hit atleast 30 home runs in 5 straight seasons.

    The Tigers added to their lead in the 4th inning after a single by Alex Avila, then Delmon Young hit a 2-run home run; it's his 13th of the season and gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

    Detroit added on in the 5th inning with a double by Andy Dirks, then Miguel Cabrera hit a single to drive in Dirks and extended the Tigers lead to 4-0.

    Max Scherzer had trouble with his control early in the game, but settled down. He pitched 7 shutout innings, giving up only 4 hits, walking 2 and striking out 10 batters; he earned his 12th win of the season.

    The Tigers came back in the 8th inning with a double by Jhonny Peralta, then a single by Omar Infante to score Peralta and the Tigers took a 5-0 lead.

    Octavio Dotel came in and gave up 1 run in the 8th inning.

    Joaquin Benoit came in and pitched a 1-2-3 9th inning to get the Tigers the win.

    The Tigers have an off day tommorrow, but open up a 3 game home series Friday against the Orioles as Justin Verlander (12-7 2.46 ERA) takes the mound against Tommy Hunter (4-7 5.54 ERA).
