Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Royals have signed free agent Kendrys Morales to a two-year, $17 million contract.
The deal also includes around $1.5 million in performance-based bonuses. Morales batted just .218/.274/.338 with eight homers and 42 RBI in 98 games this past season between the Mariners and Twins, but he's only 31 years old so maybe there's better production ahead. He'll become the Royals' new designated hitter. Billy Butler departed for the A's in November on a three-year, $30 million free agent deal.
