  • Brett Anderson Accepts 1 Year $15.8 Million Qualifying Offer From Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Brett Anderson accepts qualifying offer - Los Angeles - Dodgers Report - ESPN

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers' pitching rotation just got a bit more defined.

Left-hander Brett Anderson accepted the team's $15.8 million qualifying offer, the team announced, and will join fellow lefties Clayton Kershaw and Alex Wood as the only sure things in the team's rotation going into spring training.

This offseason marked a tipping point for qualifying offers as, for the first time, several players have accepted them. Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters and Houston Astros center fielder Colby Rasmus also accepted qualifying offers.

Second baseman Howie Kendrick and pitcher Zack Greinke rejected the Dodgers' qualifying offers and will pursue multi-year deals on the open market.

Anderson, an active participant on social media, took to Twitter to say, "Here's to being in Dodger blue for at least another year."

The Dodgers still figure to be active in pursuing free-agent pitchers this winter, but Anderson's return makes it possible they will limit their pursuit to right-handed pitchers to balance out their rotation. Greinke, Johnny Cueto and Jordan Zimmermann are the most prominent right-handers available. Anderson, 27, was 10-9 with a 3.69 ERA while reaching career highs for innings (180 1/3) and starts (31) last season. He had the highest ground-ball rate in the major leagues.

The Dodgers are believed to have engaged Anderson's agent in talks about a multi-year deal, but couldn't reach agreement by a Friday afternoon deadline for players to decide on qualifying offers.
