Milwaukee Brewers trade Jean Segura to Arizona Diamondbacks in five-player deal
The Milwaukee Brewers traded shortstop Jean Segura and minor league pitcher Tyler Wagner to the Arizona Diamondbacks in a five-player deal.
Milwaukee acquired infielder Aaron Hill, right-hander Chase Anderson, shortstop Isan Diaz and cash. The money is to offset Hill's 2016 salary, which is set at $12 million, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.
"In Chase Anderson and Aaron Hill, we are adding two proven Major League contributors who will impact our team this year." Brewers general manager David Stearns said in a statement. "Chase is a young starting pitcher who has already enjoyed success at the major league level. Aaron has a long history of production and positional versatility."
Segura, 25, was named an All-Star in 2013. In four seasons, he has hit .266 with 23 home runs, 144 RBIs and a .360 slugging percentage. He hit .257 with six homers, 50 RBIs and 25 steals the past season.
Wagner, also 25, made his major league debut the past season and went 0-2 with a 7.24 ERA in three starts. He went 11-5 with a 2.24 ERA and 120 strikeouts in 25 starts at Double-A Biloxi in 2015.
The 28-year-old Anderson was 6-6 with a 4.30 ERA in 27 starts the past season. Hill has played 11 seasons in the majors and has hit .429 with four home runs in 10 career games at Miller Park.
In Diaz, 19, the Brewers get a player who was named Pioneer League MVP with the Diamondbacks' Missoula, Montana, affiliate after he batted .360 with a .436 OBP, .640 slugging percentage, 13 home runs and 51 RBIs in 68 games. Hill, an 11-year veteran and two-time All-Star, has a career .268 batting average between the Toronto Blue Jays and Diamondbacks.
