Stephen Strasburg, Washington Nationals agree to 7-year, $175M extension
Starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg and the Washington Nationals have agreed to a seven-year, $175 million extension, sources confirmed to ESPN's Jim Bowden.
The deal does feature opt-out clauses, sources said. Strasburg gets a rolling opt-out after the third or fourth year of the contract and could receive $7 million in performance bonuses.
The Nationals plan to make an official announcement Tuesday, The Washington Post reports.
Strasburg was set to become a free agent after this season. He and the Nationals agreed in January to a $10.4 million contract for this season, avoiding arbitration.
