St. Louis Cardinals acquire Zach Duke from Chicago White Sox
The St. Louis Cardinals bolstered their bullpen for the pennant chase, acquiring left-hander Zach Duke from the Chicago White Sox for a minor league outfielder.
Duke has appeared in an American League-leading 53 games this season and is 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA. The 33-year-old has 42 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings.
The White Sox get 23-year-old outfielder Charlie Tilson, who's batting .282 with four homers, 34 RBIs and 15 stolen bases at Triple-A Memphis.
"Charlie is a LH hitting outfielder whose speed and defensive ability enable him to do a number of things well," White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said in a tweet by the White Sox.
The Cardinals trail the Chicago Cubs by 6.5 games in the NL Central but are tied for the second wild-card spot in the National League.
Duke began his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates as a starter. In six years, he was 45-70 with a 4.54 ERA. He has since spent six years with the Diamondbacks, Nationals, Reds, Brewers and White Sox and has been used almost exclusively as a reliever.
