Colorado Rockies hire ex-San Diego Padres manager Bud Black

The Colorado Rockies will hire former San Diego Padres skipper Bud Black as their manager, according to multiple reports.

Black will replace Walt Weiss, who resigned last month after four seasons.

Black had interviewed last month for the Atlanta Braves' manager job that went to Brian Snitker, who had taken over as interim manager after Fredi Gonzalez was fired midseason.

Black spent nearly 8½ years as San Diego's manager, going 649-713 before he was fired during the 2015 season. He had only two winning seasons and never led the Padres to the playoffs, though he was picked as NL Manager of the Year in 2010.

Black's hiring by the Rockies was first reported by FanRag Sports.

Going into the 2016 season, Black appeared to be in line for the Washington Nationals job, but negotiations broke down and Dusty Baker was hired instead.

Black was a left-handed starting pitcher whose MLB career spanned 15 years from 1981 to '95.
