2012 NBA free agency -- Detroit Pistons agree to deal with Ukrainian C Vyacheslav Kravtsov - ESPN

    Who??? LOL!

The Detroit Pistons have struck a verbal agreement to sign Ukranian center Vyacheslav Kravtsov to a multiyear deal, according to his agent.

"Vyacheslav intends to sign a player contract with the Pistons when the moratorium period ends," Kravtsov's representative, Jeff Schwartz, said Sunday night.

Pistons president Joe Dumars confirmed the negotiations in a statement Monday.

"We are engaged in negotiations with Vyacheslav Kravtsov and will enter into a player contract when the moratorium period ends," he said in the statement.

July 11 is the first day NBA players can sign new contracts, but handshake agreements are permissible in the interim.

The 7-footer turns 25 in August and played for the Boston Celtics' summer-league team in 2010 after going undrafted in 2009.

Kravtsov averaged 10.6 points and 5.5 rebounds in 22 minutes per game last season for BC Donetsk in the Ukranian league. Scouts regard him as an excellent athlete who plays above the rim and is primarily known for his defensive abilities as a rebounder and shot blocker.

I like it. Why not? Hopefully he's really bad and helps the team lose.

Why are they picking up all of these Centers, I thought Greg Monroe plays center for them.

              Is he a better PF?

I thought he was decent this past year, but that's fantasy wise though, I didn't watch any Pistons games so don't know what his game's like in real life. ..

Yes, much better. He's not that good defensively, so covering a guy bigger and stronger than him exposes his flaws.

Pistons sign C Kravtsov - Yahoo! Sports

Center Viacheslav Kravtsov signed a multi-year deal with the Pistons. Financial terms were not disclosed, but it was expected to be a $2 million deal.

Kravtsov, who will be 25 next season, averaged 10.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks playing in the Ukrainian Superleague last season. The Pistons view Kravtsov as a 15- to 20-minute player who can be their defensive anchor on the second unit.

With the Pistons over the salary cap, Kravtsov is a more cost-effective pickup compared to a veteran NBA free agent such as Chris Kaman, whom the Pistons were expected to pursue.

"We are pleased to add Viacheslav Kravtsov to our roster and welcome him to the organization," said Joe Dumars, Pistons President of Basketball Operations. "He's a young player with good size, rebounding and shot-blocking ability. He will provide us with some quality depth at the center position.".
