  • Rockets Use Amnesty Waiver On Luis Scola, Claimed By Suns

Wow Rockets are really stupid. I wonder which management is worse. Rockets or Wolves? LOL!

The Rockets will use their amnesty provision on Luis Scola.

Houston is pursuing a trade for Dwight Howard.

Scola is owed $21 million over the next three seasons.

The Rockets will have the cap space to absorb the contracts of Howard and several others that the Magic seek to eliminate.

Source -- Dallas Mavericks prepared to bid heavily on Luis Scola - ESPN Dallas

The Dallas Mavericks have a backup plan if their bid for Elton Brand isn't enough to win.

A source says the Mavs are also prepared to aggressively bid on Luis Scola through the amnesty waivers process if they do not get Brand, a better defender and rebounder.

The 6-foot-9, 245-pound Scola, 32, averaged 15.5 points and 6.4 rebounds last season for the Houston Rockets, who reportedly opted to use the amnesty provision to waive the remaining three years and $21 million on the forward's contract.

The winning bid on Scola will be prorated over the three remaining years on his contract. Brand, on the other hand, is entering the last season of his contract and would be off the books next summer.

That's a notable difference for the Mavericks, who need financial flexibility.

I'm expecting this to happen. Amnestying Scola is just absolutely stupid idea.

Problem is any team picking up scola has to pay at least $10 mil in his salary (still a steal), but not as big of a savings as someone like brand

Sources -- Phoenix Suns win amnesty auction for Luis Scola - ESPN

Curious what the winning bid amount was for. That will probably be released later tonight or tomorrow.

The Phoenix Suns have won the amnesty auction for former Houston Rockets forward Luis Scola, according to sources with knowledge of the auction outcome.

The NBA's 30 teams were notified shortly after 5 p.m. ET on Sunday that the Suns won the blind bidding for Scola, which requires interested teams under the salary cap to bid no less than $3 million for this season and $10-plus million for the next three seasons.

It was not immediately known how many teams placed bids on Scola beyond the Suns and the Dallas Mavericks.

For a team like the Suns, this was a good signing. $4.5 million per year average.

The Suns placed a winning amnesty bid for Luis Scola at three-years, $13.5 million.

Good average, but decision to amnesty childress to make it happen was stupid. Childress defefinitely was worthy of amnesty, but when you have a penny pinching owner paying $21 million to a guy not even on the team will hurt the overall product.
