  • Grizzlies Sign Mike Miller

    Y! SPORTS

Mike Miller is taking his two championship rings and returning to Memphis.

The 33-year-old shooting guard, a key reserve the past two years for the two-time champion Miami Heat, will sign a free agent deal with the Grizzlies, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday.

Miller was cut loose by the Heat courtesy of the NBA's amnesty provision, which allows teams to get out from under unfavorable contracts with the player still receiving his money.

According to ESPN.com, Kevin Durant attempted to lure Miller to sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder, but Marc Gasol and Mike Conley convinced the veteran to sign with the Grizzlies.

Miller spent 2002-03 through 2007-08 in Memphis, posting the highest scoring average of his career (18.5 points per game) in 2006-07. He went on to play one year with the Washington Wizards before a three-year stint in Miami. Miller began his career by playing three years with the Orlando Magic.
