  • Clippers Sign Wesley Johnson To 3 Years $18 Million

    Clippers, Wesley Johnson agree on a 3-year, $18 million contract - SBNation.com

Free agent wing Wesley Johnson has agreed to a three-year, $18 million dollar deal to return to the Clippers, according to The Vertical's Shams Charania.

Johnson was the fourth pick in the 2010 NBA Draft but never became the star he was expected to be. He played for three teams in his first five years in the league, but it seems like the journeyman has found a home.

Johnson averaged seven points and three rebounds in 21 minutes per game last season with the Clippers, numbers that are far from impressive. His defensive versatility and durability, however, earned him a spot in the rotation, as he suited up for 80 of Los Angeles' 82 games.

At this point in his career, it's not realistic to expect Johnson to improve greatly. At 28 years of age, he's close to a finished product. He will sop up minutes at both forward spots while playing decent defense and spotting up for open three-pointers.

In that role he has value. His length makes him a disruptive force, as his over one steal per game shows, and he can hit wide open looks. But there's nothing exciting about him.

Johnson is just a fringe player who found a role on a team in need of depth. It's unlikely he will develop any other weapons going into next season. What he will do is try hard and give Doc Rivers some defense and athleticism off the bench.
