2016 NBA free agency -- Matt Barnes returning to Sacramento Kings
Matt Barnes has agreed to sign with the Sacramento Kings on a two-year deal worth $12 million with a player option in the second year, league sources told ESPN's Marc Stein.
Barnes, 36, has played for nine teams, including the Kings in the 2004-05 season, since his 2004 NBA debut on a 10-day contract for the Los Angeles Clippers. He most recently found a steady role as the fifth starter on a star-studded Clippers team, but he was traded twice the past summer, after three seasons with Los Angeles and ultimately landed in Memphis.
Barnes started 45 games this past season for a Grizzlies team that made the playoffs despite setting an NBA record for most players used (28) in a season. He averaged 10 points, 5.5 rebounds and a career-low 38.1 percent shooting on a career-high 9.1 attempts per game.
A lightning rod off and on the court, Barnes has racked up close to $375,000 in fines from the NBA since 2011, according to The Vertical.
Barnes most recently lost nearly $100,000 and was suspended two games for an alleged altercation in October with then-New York Knicks coach Derek Fisher at the home of Gloria Govan in Los Angeles and "inappropriate" comments concerning Fisher three months later.
Barnes has averaged 8.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game over 13 seasons since he was drafted out of UCLA in the second round.
